News Room 10 months ago 0 74

BAAT Construction Company clarifies that the four-storey shopping mall under construction in Jos, Plateau State, did not collapse, contrary to media speculation. The company attributes the incident to an on-site accident, a common occurrence in construction projects.

During a briefing at the Fox Hotel Banquet Hall in Jos on February 5, 2024, site engineer Yasir Adams emphasized that the reported collapse only affected a section designated as the parking lot, as requested by the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB). Construction of the mall, approved by the JMDB on April 4, 2023, has progressed smoothly, nearing 90% completion.

Adams urged the JMDB to assess the structure’s integrity following the incident on February 4, 2024, emphasizing that such occurrences are typical in construction projects.

Contractor and project architect Arc. Iliyasu M. Iliyasu assured the public of the company’s commitment to safety and quality. He emphasized the implementation of best practices to prevent collapses and other incidents, prioritizing the safety of both the structure and occupants.
