A gathering of residents in Jos, the capital of Plateau state, has joined the nationwide demonstration against poor governance in Nigeria. Protesters, numbering in the hundreds, carried placards with inscriptions such as “We are hungry”, “Stop Hyperinflation”, and “Tinubu must go” as they marched through the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.
Notably, prominent Christian leader Isa El-Buba, who has faced harassment from security operatives for speaking out against poor governance, addressed the crowd, urging them to make their demands peacefully. Nigeria’s former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, was also in attendance, acknowledging and apologising for his past failures. “I stand in solidarity with Nigerians,” he declared.
The protest has blocked the Old Airport Junction, a major intersection in the metropolis, with several security operatives maintaining a watchful presence. Despite the large gathering, the atmosphere has remained peaceful thus far.
