In a surprising turn of events, Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik welcomed thousands of members from five political parties in Plateau State to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on the eve of the presidential election.
At an energetic event held at the Atiku/Okowa campaign secretariat on Friday, the APC, ADC, LP, ZENITH LP and YPP all agreed to collapse their structures in the interest of the PDP. Kefas Wungak Ropshik thanked the decampees for their bold decision to be part of the PDP family and reminded them that politics is about interest.
He also highlighted the private sector background of Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate, as a reason why prosperity will come to the Plateau. The gubernatorial candidate, Caleb Mutfwang and the state’s party chairman, Chris Hassan were also present at the event.
Mutfwang welcomed the decampees with open arms and expressed his joy as they have all returned from their “sabbatical”. He implored each one of them to be part of the success story to restore Plateau State and reminded them that the decision they took came in the “nick of time”. The party Chairman then handed out membership cards to the new members and urged them to work tirelessly to deliver PDP at all levels of government.
With the election just around the corner, it remains to be seen whether this move will have any significant impact on the political landscape of Plateau State. But for now, it is clear that the PDP has gained a significant boost in numbers and is poised to make a strong showing in the polls.
