
The News: Plateau state governor, Caleb Mutfwang has banned the illegal collection of taxes in the 17 local government areas of the state.
This was disclosed by Musa Ashoms, the state’s commissioner for information, on Wednesday shortly after the “onboarding retreat” for newly appointed members of the state’s executive arm which was held at National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru.
Why it Matters: According to Mr Mutfwang, the ban will end revenue diversion and multiple taxation. He expressed his administration’s determination to ensure strategic reforms in the revenue structure of the state
What Now: Going forward, the government intends to hold routine town hall meetings to inform citizens about the administration activities on various issues including tax reform.
