Ahead of the rerun elections for federal legislators in Plateau North Senatorial District and the Jos/Bassa Federal Constituency on Saturday, two candidates each have been endorsed by the Plateau state chapters of Leadership of Dariqah Muslim Council (LAJNA) and the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) for the elections.
Both organisations have stated that they arrived at their resolutions following multiple consultations. According to Panmak Lere, the chairman of YOWICAN, “Our decision is not influenced by party affiliation but by the potential and quality of the candidates.”
In a statement signed by Lere, YOWICAN endorsed Gyang Zi of the Labour Party (LP) as its “sole candidate” for the Plateau North senatorial election, along with Daniel Asama, another LP candidate vying for the Jos North/Bassa federal constituency. The organisation emphasised to its members that “the sanctity of the Church and the land must be protected.”
Meanwhile, LAJNA endorsed Pam Mwadkon of the Action Democratic Party as its sole candidate for the senatorial seat, and Ibrahim Hassan of the All Progressive Congress for the federal constituency position. LAJNA, in a statement signed by Yusuf Wase, state publicity secretary of the council, encouraged all eligible members to come out in large numbers and vote for the two candidates.
