UNIJOS and UNIMAID Medical Students Feared Abducted in Benue En Route to FECAMDS National Convention

At least 17 medical students from the University of Jos (UNIJOS) and the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) are feared to have been abducted in Benue state. The students were travelling to the annual national convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS), set to take place at the College of Immaculate Conception in Enugu State.

An official of the Jos University Medical Students Association (JUMSA) confirmed the incident to JoeyOffAir, stating it occurred on Thursday evening, 15 Aug.

The abducted students were last tracked in Benue State. Efforts to confirm the incident with the Benue State Police Command have been inconclusive. Sewuese Anene, the command’s spokesperson, stated that they have yet to verify reports of the kidnapping.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Medical Students’ Association stated, without providing specific details, “The situation is under control and is being managed.” In a post on X, the association added, “Stay tuned for updates.”
