The news: Renew Our World, an international Christian movement championing climate action globally is preparing to debut a three-month radio program titled “Keep the Planet Green” on Jay 101.9 FM in Jos, Plateau state.
The show, scheduled for every Friday beginning February 16, will be co-hosted by Joey Shekwonuzhibo, a leading development journalist based in Plateau, and Christy Makut, a geophysicist. Through engaging discussions, the program aims to delve into climate change issues and highlight the community’s role in fostering meaningful action.
Why it Matters: “Climate Awareness and understanding is one of the critical issues that have increased climate impact globally. Until the people are aware and informed they may not be able to take action. This show will help individuals and communities who did not know or understand the issues to take action,” says Promise Salawu, a project officer at Renew Our World.
- Why radio? Renew Our World and its partners hold the belief that radio serves as a significant platform for engaging the general public in awareness, information dissemination, and education. Jay FM, the predominant radio station in Plateau state, boasts a broad listenership spanning parts of Bauchi, Kaduna, and Nassarawa, making it the ideal choice for broadcasting the show on its airwaves.
- The organisation is broadcasting the show in partnership with Jos Green Centre, ACET Nigeria, TCNN, and other collaborators. The inaugural episode will centre on the issue of waste and is anticipated to feature perspectives from prominent climate action advocates including Asibi Akwa from Jos Green Centre, June Elsie, and Monday Akubuokwu from Renew Our World.
